The overarching assumption of industrial education systems (e.g. most schools) is teaching by telling and learning by listening.

Teaching by telling and learning by listening assumes that students absorb content when teachers clearly explain the facts.

Yet, we know from decades of learning science research that this assumption is fundamentally flawed.

Students learn more effectively by doing, engaging their agency, making decisions, failing, building and connecting.

Telling/listening is cheaper currently but it doesn’t have to be that way. Schools of the future will answer: How might we give students opportunities to engage with the real world and get real world feedback?
